The story. Since 2006.

The story of truly life-changing Nordic art and design.

Through sustainable job creation, we empower our artisans and their families to break the cycle of poverty.

So you can relax knowing that your purchase of Mum’s directly empowers artisan moms for a brighter future, while enriching your home with the timeless style of Nordic design.

Africa + Nordic Design.

In Africa, we work with Fair Trade. We have the privilege of collaborating with established and award-winning South African artist and designer Heath Nash. He is dedicated to creating art and design through sustainability and supporting communities.

With the Fair Trade label, Mum’s supports Zulu artisan women who can work from home, save travel costs, and take care of their families. Nordic design is integrated with traditional African beading techniques.

This should be in a new paragraph alongside the image. I'll provide the image, so text and image are side by side on the website.

India + Nordic Design.

It is not common for rural areas in India to use the Fair Trade label.

Working conditions and agreements are supervised through the Indian SMETA system - Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit Report.

This system, based on the larger Indian community SEDEX, supervises sustainable and ethical aspects of production.

In India, Mum’s employs women's communities and blends Nordic design with traditional beading techniques, creating various lovely handmade treasures.

Tufted wall art is also crafted by women artisans.

Education.

We have dreams...

We dream of a more equal world, with less artificial blue light and more natural light.

We dream, through Mum’s work, to support skilled artisans living in small villages and communities.

Artisans who never had the chance to go to school are proud to pay for their children to attend school, learn to read, write, and grow.

Education is an essential part of every child’s development, providing the knowledge and skills needed to build a better future with more opportunities.

Founder.

The founder of Mum’s is Finnish Outi Puro. She is a mother of four children, graduated as a visual art teacher, visual artist, and sculptor. Mum’s started in 2006 when Outi went to South Africa as part of her art project focused on responsibility towards people and the environment. Over the years, Mum’s has evolved into a sustainable design company employing about 70-100 artisans, depending on the size of the orders.

The values remain the same:

Mum’s minds people and the environment.
